Committees to accomplish our goals

      To carry out all the projects that Cornhusker Kiwanis is involved with throughout the year, each member is asked to join one or more committees. Our current committees and functions are listed here.

Agriculture Day (Farm/City Breakfast)

Sponsor Agriculture Day with other Kiwanis groups in Lancaster County. The farm city breakfast is held annually to bring the Lincoln community together with the farm community. The key responsibilities include making arrangements for the date, location, food, speaker, and program.
Aktion Club Coordination
Brewer, Jim
Support the Lincoln Aktion Club--a Kiwanis club for adults living with developmental disabilities. We co-sponsor this organization with the ARC of Lincoln/Lancaster County.
Bike Rodeo & Jamboree
Matoush, Bob
Schedule volunteers to assist in some local school's bike safety and rodeo events. Help in all city finals. Help children learn and promote safety.
Board of Directors
Arnold, Randy
The board of directors charts the basic course to the club. All members of the club are invited to attend any meeting of the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors typically meets once a month at the discretion of the President.
Cheney Club Satellite

A group of members acting as an extension of the activities of the Primary Club. The Club Satellite may generate its own projects and activities and/or may participate in any of the Primary Club's activities.
Community Blood Bank

Encourage members to donate blood to the Community Blood Bank to help others.
Cornhusker Girls State & Boys State

Assist in choosing a qualified young lady to attend Cornhusker Girls State and a young man to attend Cornhusker Boys State. Financial contributions are given to support both.
Cornhusker Kiwanis Foundation Board of Directors

Board of Directors as an organizational committee for the creation of Lincoln Cornhusker Kiwanis Foundation
Eliminate Project Kiwanis International world-wide neonatal tetanus project to eradicate baby's deaths due to tetanus by providing inoculations to mothers.
Facilities Committee

Schedules club members to set up and remove meeting room items (flags, banners, etc.) for each meeting.
Finance and Fund Raising Projects Provides leadership and strategic planning for our fund raising activities.
Fincial Review

Perform the annual Financial Review after the end of the fiscal year and other duties as assigned.
Greeter/Thought for the Day

Coordinate members for greeting attendees at each meeting and presenting a "thought for the day"
Kokes, Etta
Recording and keeping a historical record of our club.
Herr, Gary
Schedules visits by our club to other clubs in the area. Promotes goodwill and exchange of ideas.
Kiwanis ONEday

Coordinate efforts for the special day when all clubs of the Kiwanis family make an impact on communities around the world. This day is typically scheduled for the first Saturday of April.
Lancaster County Fair Information Booth

Schedule club members for staffing the information booth at the Lancaster County Fair.
Legislative Day
Spencer, Richard
Assist and coordinate with Division 21 & 22 Lt. Governors for a day at the State Capital to learn of legislative action being taken.
LPS Backpack/Food Bank
Scheffler, David
Provide children's meals for LPS by providing a backpack with food for the weekend. Also provide financial support and volunteer help to pack and distribute the backpscks.
Meals on Wheels

Schedule volunteers from our club to assist in delivering measls from Tabitha Health Care to those people that are unable to manage for themselves.
Membership Growth and Education

Developing ideas and actions which result in acquiring a regular stream of new members, the life blood of our club. Orientation of new members, all facets of Kiwanis,also keeps all members aware of new agendas and policies. Follow up with members, keeping their interest and enthusiasm at a high level.
Membership Retention

Followup of members, keeping their interest and enthusiasm at a high level. Notifies members of upcoming programs and events.
Waechter, Jerry
Compiles, edits and publishes monthly newsletters containing news of recent events, current events, and future events pertaining to out club and its members.
Obasi Kidtrek Project Assist children through monetary gifts as well as involving the children with building and baking projects. Previous projects involved sending children to Camp OK.
Pancake/French Toast Feed

This is Cornhusker Kiwanis' club primary fundraiser for youth projects. Arrange for the location and coordinate members help with set-up, food preparation, serving, hosting and clean-up for this one-day project. Sub-committees coordinate the selling of tickets and selling of advertising for the placemats.
Peanut Day

One of Cornhusker Kiwanis' major projects for raising funds for youth projects. Schedule volunteers to hand out peanuts at various stores throughout Lincoln. Typically held in the Fall.
Program and Education

Schedules and coordinates weekly Kiwanis meeting programs. Each member is assigned one week out of the year to help with the program
Project Linus
Trauthen, Ginny
Volunteer "blanketeers" provide new, handmade, washable blankets to hospitalized seriously ill and traumatized children, ages 0-18.
Public Relations

Communicates our activities and accomplishments to the Lincoln community and other Kiwanis organizations.
Reading is Fundamental (RIF)

Visit schools and churches in the area to read for 20 minutes to pre-school children in the Excite Program. The reading project involves five new books that a Kiwanis member reads to the children and then gives them the book to take home to promote reading.
Salvation Army

Ring bells before Christmas to raise money for the needy. Schedule volunteers for various shifts and locations.

Award a college scholarship to those students that have a high grade-point average and have been outstanding in community service.

Makes preparation for Christmas party during December for celebration of holiday season, Charter Night during March for celebration of Chartering of club in 1963, and a Club Picnic during June for fellowship and fun.

Assist with the distribution of infant supplies to needy parents at Lincoln Medical Center.

Willie's Underwear Project

Assist with the project within Lincoln Public Schools to provide emergency clothing for elementary children.
Wish 'N' Spin

Secure locations for placement of the Wish 'N' Spin machines. Monitor and collect the money from the machines weekly.
Young Children - Priority One

Reaches into the local community to find potential Young Children, Priority One projects for the club to address the needs of children prenatal through age five.
